On my mind

In my On my mind entries, I'll share tidbits of life and the beauty obsessions that keep me up at night!

What really kept me up this week was last minute list editing for the Sephora Friends and Family sale. Even with all the planning, I ended up slashing and adding things at the last minute. I focused on the basics instead of color. My haul included two foundations: Make Up For Ever HD in Flesh (118) and NARS Sheer Glow in Deauville. Lately I've become obsessed with foundations. I'm largely pleased with my NARS Sheer Glow in Ceylan which has a yellow undertone, however I want to explore different undertones to see if I can find a better match. MUFE HD supposedly has beige undertones, while NARS Deauville has pink and yellow. Sometime this season, I plan on purchasing Chanel Perfection Lumiere when opportunity strikes. I'm still not completely sure whether I want it in B10 or B20.

Lately, I've been quite enamored with MAC Scene eyeshadow. My love for blue-grey is probably akin to most bloggers' love for taupes. Scene is the perfect shade of matte blue-grey with a smooth texture. It makes for a gentle smoky eye or a nice shadow at the lashline. I've used MAC scene so much I'm getting tired of it, but I still find myself reaching for it almost every day. It was MAC Scene that made me a MAC eyeshadow convert.

Speaking of MAC, today I couldn't stop thinking about the Miss Piggy for MAC mini collection that will come out soon. The promo photo of Miss Piggy with the dark auburn short shaggy haircut is just perfect! The MAC Miss Piggy Pink is a bright blue-pink eyeshadow. Despite my penchant for conservative colors, I've successfully convinced myself that a Miss Piggy Pink eyeshadow is something that I will use and ...er... need in my collection.

Recently I traveled to attend a friend's wedding extravaganza. Mr. Lovey was a part of the groom's party so this involved going to the multiple events. I found the following silver bag and shoe combination worked quite well to carry me comfortably throughout the day. Real heels were only worn at the reception.

Finally, I'd like to give a shout out to my brother. Though he probably could care less about cosmetics and the content of this blog, he gifted me with a lightbox to use for my pictures! I was quite surprised and touched by his thoughtfulness. This is a serious upgrade to my current equipment which consists of a point-and-shoot camera and a sheet of computer paper. I haven't had the chance to tinker with it too much, but I'm excited to do so soon. Thanks bro =).

That wraps up what's on my mind this week. I'm staying up way too late to write this, but I had a Starbucks instant coffee packet earlier today. No cream, no sugar. That stuff is strong! I'd love to hear what's on your mind, no matter how random it may be. Do you have a must-have MAC shadow? Anyone else excited about Miss Piggy Pink, or have a favorite pair of shoes?

Love, Dovey.

  3. I think I can honestly say that I've never heard of Scene. After falling head over heels in love with Parisian Skies I think I need to pick some up. It looks like the perfect heather blue-gray.

  4. I'm obsessed with Foundation, too! I've got the NARS Sheer Glow in Punjab for when I'm really tan; Sheer Matte in Fiji for when I'm lighter. I used to wear Ceylan, but since coming to Oman so many times, I'm no longer an NC20, ever!

I also bought myself a light box too - still experimenting. Have fun with yours!

  5. MAC Scene, Patina, Jest, Pink Swoon, Chanel VitaLumiere Aqua B10 (the sample lasted like foreverrr!), Broujois Healthy Mix, Shu Uemura Eyelash curler and a ton more are on my list right now lol. Seems like my list is never ending...

Oh and your brother is so sweet!

  7. I had a shoe-addiction long before makeup addiction, so you can imagine how torn/crazy I feel when I go shopping. :) I don't have a fave MAC shadow but I think I should find one! Lastly, I have no love for any of the Muppets but really love Miss Piggy's jacket in that picture. Here I am in my weekend bum clothes and that puppet is dressed 100x better. Harrrumph! lol

  8. ahhh foundations are your current obsession eh? I was in a mad bronzer stage for months T.T
I have never heard of Scene eyeshadow but for you to use it so often makes it desearve at least a swatch at my next MAC visit!!!
Ms Piggy is cute! hahaha we all know she loved her eye shadow! She seems like a MAC girl! lol

  9. My Sephora F&F purchase was also n basics instead of color. I did buy some backup (or replacement) makeup, but it was more about stocking up on skincare for the next 6 months. Rather annoying we could only use the code ONCE this year.

I also love MAC Scene, but I don't reach for it as often as my all-time favorite blue grey eyeshadow, Shu Uemura M Grey 943, which was discontinued and then brought back as 960 but discontinued again! I don't know if I have a favorite MAC shadow any longer. Maybe Copperplate or Shale.

What a great gift from your brother! You take such excellent photos, I'd love it if you did a post on your setup and technique one day. I have gone through two light-box-with-lights combos and ended up throwing them away because they made all my photos look amber. So now I just wait for a clear, sunny day and take photos on my kitchen table, which is white. It sure would be convenient to be able to snap pics on gloomy, rainy days or even at night.

  10. Girlie Blogger- completely agreed. I like the word feisty

Justine- I've always put foundation to the side, but now I find it more interesting!

Jessica- yay! I'm glad I was able to introduce you two =P

Jamilla- lol! I think if I lived Oman I'd be 3 or 4 shades darker!

Amy - what a great list! I'm going to look up Jest and Pink Swoon to see what they look like. I agree with never ending lists too....

Sarah- a homemade one sounds awesome! better ask your hubby to get to work =P

Liz- LOL! I used to love shoes too... until I found makeup =) Now the shoes are more under control, hehe

Lilladylife- Ah! I love bronzer too. I don't use it now because I'm trying to heal my skin, but I miss it. Makeup just isn't the same without it.

Zuzu - Copperplate is high on my list of MAC wants. I'll take a closer look now that you mention it! I think pictures on gloomy days are so tough. The lightbox certainly helps, but I don't think it can match the sun! I will have to play around to see what is the best setting. I'd love to have a white table so I could ditch the computer paper =) I was hoping to do a photography series like you suggested, but I haven't completely formulated my ideas yet! I will try to brainstorm soon.

  11. Ooh, Scene looks so pretty in your photo - I can't believe I haven't seen it before. I think a trip to the MAC counter is in order! I'm also curious to see the MAC Miss Piggy shades. Love your silver bag :) xx
