My January Makeup Favorites

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green,
When I am king, dilly dilly, you shall be queen
...
For me, January was all about delicate lavenders, drawing from my 'Inspired by Monet' post on New Year's Day. I paired the color with soft neutrals, pinks, and a touch of green. My favorite lavender eyeshadow was NARS Nouveau Monde eyeshadow duo (see swatches below). Nouveau Monde has a mossy green that adds an organic depth when paired with the lavender. I also got a lot of use out of Bobbi Brown Navajo and Cement eyeshadows. They look great alone, or paired with other colors. I was really proud that I finally reached the metal pan on Navajo (see above)! It was the first time I've managed to 'hit pan', as bloggers like to say. My favorite blushes were dainty pinks, including Illamasqua Nymph blusher and Illamasqua Katie blusher.

My most used foundations were  MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish Foundation in #117* (review here) and MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body Foundation in #20. I'm really loving Pro-finish, especially if I apply it with a brush instead of the included foam pad. Face & Body has been a staple foundation for me this winter; it's dewy and less drying than my mostly matte foundation collection. Finally, I tried NARS Copacabana Illuminator. I was already a fan of the NARS Copacabana multiple (review here), and so it's no surprise that I'm loving the liquid version as well! Thanks for reading! Do we share any of the same favorites? What colors have you been loving this month?

Love, Dovey.

P.S. And of course my favorite nail polish this month is Essie Lilacism (see why here). I'll be wearing it until the Baltimore Ravens' NFL season is 'nevermore'!
*Disclosure: This post contains product(s) sent to Cute and Mundane for consideration by PR. The ideas and opinions in this post are genuine and my own.

  1. Oddly, I've been admiring Nouveau Monde lately so it's funny that you featured it here! Love the touch of lavender and green.

And hurray for hitting pan! I've yet to do so though I think it may end up being a Bobbi Brown shadow as well - the shade Bone in a multi-palette that I used for base and brow highlighting.

    1. Hi Liz! That's awesome--- maybe we're on the same wavelength! It's def. hard to hit pan when there's so many shadows to choose from. Bobbi Brown Navajo is currently discontinued (sad) so if I ever run out I'll probably have to get Bone. Or, I'll just get Bone regardless of whether I run out :-P

  9. I remember 'hitting pan' on eyeshadows back when I only had one Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palette. LOL But that was before I knew what 'hitting pan' meant! Illamasqua Katie keeps popping up in posts & singing her siren song. I know it is lighter than the pinks that I currently have but keep wondering how it would look on - unfortunately local counters to try it on first. : (
The lavender in Nouveau is so pretty - cool leaning, which can be hard to find sometimes. I can't do lavenders that lean warm/red.

    1. Hi Kristi,

Bobbi is one of my favorites for sure! I've never hit palette before, even on a palette, though I've come close. Katie is really pretty--- it took me a long time to purchase it too despite knowing how well loved it is :)

    1. Hi Lindsay, MUFE Face and Body works well for me in the cold months when my face is less shiny. I've found bottles at my local Sephora, but it could depend on location!

  16. Love the look of Bobbi Brown's Cement and I've got MUFE Face & Body as well and it is awesome...very natural coverage and the coverage isn't as light as people say it is.

  17. Lovely favourites Dovey! The Illamasqua blushes both look very pretty and the MUFE foundations sound great too. I've only tried one foundation from the brand (the HD one), but the Face & Body has been on my to try list for a while. The Pro Finish sounds good too!
