Chanel Chance eau de toilette review

Chanel Chance is my newest perfume love. I was first introduced to Chance in lotion form, through a gift from my mother. The scent was so entrancing that I knew I would have to try it in fragrance form as well.

The circular bottle is small, but charming. There's a reflective metal strip around the bottle. The lucite cap with the Chanel imprint needs to be pulled off (somewhat forcibly) to access the spray nozzle inside. I bought the 1.2 oz size. I'm trying to make it a habit of buying the small bottles of perfume. It's tempting to buy larger bottles, however I've only ever made it completely through one bottle of fragrance so far. I've also noticed that fragrances with fresh or delicate top notes can lose their character over time if not stored well. So smaller bottles it is!

Chanel Chance is a a smooth and warm floral without bright top notes. I can't say for sure whether my nose knows, however there may be hints of vanilla, citrus, and pepper. There is a patchouli base note that gives it character. Patchouli is not normally my cup of tea, however it's growing on me. It makes for a well balanced scent.

Overall Chance imparts a feeling of relaxed chic; it's cozy with a hint of mystery. I could wear it at home in sweats and a fuzzy sweater or with a more polished outfit out on the town. My little bottle is going to get a lot of love. I'm looking forward to trying the Eau Tendre and Eau Fraiche version of Chance, when I get the chance.

Thanks for reading my review! Have you tried the Chanel Chance family? What notes can you discern? What are your current favorite scents?

Love, Dovey.

  1. you should try the "fresh" version in the summer, then. It's one of my favourite scents. It is just clean and interesting.

    1. Hi Colourblastme, I didn't know there was a summer version. If there is, I'll definitely have to check it out. Thanks for the rec!

  2. Currently having a love affair with Patchouli...I wrote it off a long time ago as the scent of dirty, tree hugging hippies but when used in the right way and in the form of great quality synthetic, it's actually a very chic scent.

Have you sniffed the latest Bottega Veneta? Smell that...I have a feeling you might like it!

    1. Hi Lexi, I think your description of Patchouli might be right--- I'm thinking it might be an acquired taste! I haven't given up hope. I have not tried the Bottega Veneta, but now I'm intrigued! I will be sure to sniff it out :)

    1. I smelled Eau Fraiche a while back, but now I think I will have to take another whiff on your recommendation! I don't have a good green scent at the moment, so I could use something in that category.

  4. I'm trying to buy smaller sizes, too. It's so tempting to go for the bigger size because they usually only cost a fraction more, but I will probably never finish even a small perfume! Everyone seems to love this, and I can't remember whether I've smelled it or not.

  5. Eau Fraiche is my absolute favorite. You've awakened a major craving in me to buy the whole bottle! I typically aim for smaller bottles as well and attempt to fully use samples before I purchase the full size ... but it can be hard to resist temptation.

    Enjoy your new treasure,
    ♥ Jessica

  6. i much enjoyed your review. i love reading other people's interpretations on fragrance. the experiences are very personal and unique.
unfortunately, chance doesn't work with my chemistry although i adore this scent on others. it smells rather masculine on me.
my alternate choice is her older mature sister coco mademoiselle, which smells quite nice on me. :)

    1. Hi Lena, Thank you! I also like hearing about others' interpretations too to wrap my head around a scent! I think I might know what you mean about a masculine quality. It is more so than the usually more light florals I wear. I will add coco mademoiselle to my list to smell as well; I don't think I've actually tried it yet!

  7. Ah, Chance.

I wear Allure and have done since buying some in Paris before it came out in the UK.

  10. Glad you found something you like so much, Dovey! I can be so fickle with perfume.

Some years ago, my sister got Chanel Chance, but a close friend of hers bought it almost right after she did. Poor thing got really upset at being copycatted and the two of them smelled like Chance everywhere all the time. I've been eying Chanel Beige but wonder if it's... too beige? lol

    1. Hi Liz! I love the story about your sister, lol! Chanel Beige wasn't even on my radar before, but now it is :)

  11. I LOVE Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche and have been wearing it pretty much non-stop since discovering it around Thanksgiving of last year. I went through several sample sizes before putting in on my Christmas list and ended up getting it as a gift from Mr. Bloomin' Beauty. It so fresh and feminine without feeling overly...mature? I dislike musky scents so this is perfection!

    1. Hi Danielle, I just smelled a sample leaflet of Eau Fraiche, and I have to agree; it smells amazing! It's so fresh and a little green. I will definitely have to try it in person :)

  12. I'm actually surprised to read that there is patchouli in Chance because it smells quite light when you first spritz it on. I should have a longer sniff on this next time...I've been toying with getting this Chanel perfume for a few years now. I actually love most Chanel scents but they tend not to smell v good on me, e.g. Allure...

    1. The patchouli was strong on me in the beginning--- however sometimes I can barely smell it. It's interesting how smells vary from day to day!
