I 'Louvre' the Cle de Peau Luminzing Face Enhancer (review + swatches)

The Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer in 11-Pastel has an ethereal beauty. Is it art or is it makeup? I can't be sure. Typically, I'm not one to be lured with detailing, however I couldn't help but be drawn in by this timeless geometric design that has both striking simplicity and cool complexity.

The Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer has a marvelous jeweled mirror casing. If I gaze into the mirror, I see a Picasso-like image of my face. The effect is created by a 3-dimensional jewel like upper layer that sits above a mirror. The casing is weighty, as I would expect of a luxury item. The compact has a magnetic snap closure.

Triangles and pyramids posess a certain cultural mystique. The jeweled casing of my Cle de Peau Face Luminizing Enhancer brought to mind the complex triangulations of glass and light found in the Louvre pyramid. Above is a decades old photo from a family vacation in France. Apparently we were in such a hurry to get places that this is the only photo we shot at the inverted pyramid base. I'm the shadow on the far left, my mom is in the middle, and my brother is on the right. This was in the days before digital cameras, so the silhouettes were unintentional. However, In retrospect, I think it made for a more spectacular composition.

The beautiful three-dimensional triangular pattern from the lid of the Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer in 11-Pastel continues onto the product itself. The rose-scented powder is quite soft and has a silky feel. There are four different colors in the pan: lavender, blue, off-white, and peach.

I've swatched the colors in the Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer in 11-Pastel both as single colors and as a blended color. Each color is swatched heavily so that they it shows up. You can see the differences between the lavender, blue, white, and peach sheens in the single swatches. When blended together, the result is a light, balanced highlight color. The powder adds a sheer silky glow to the face when applied with the included brush. There is some white character to the color that may become more noticeable on darker skin tones.

The Cle de Peau Luminizing Face Enhancer in Pastel is a treasure I'd rather display in a glass box than tote around in my makeup bag. That said, I'm not one for keeping unused makeup around, so this luminizer will get some love. Plus, should I manage to hit pan, refills are available for purchase. Thanks for reading! Have you tried Cle de Peau? What are your favorite highlighters and luminizers? What are some beautifully packaged products in your collection?

Love, Dovey.

P.S. Instagram has nothing on two decades of actual photo aging :)

  1. Wow, this one is crazy pretty! I had this whole Cle de Peau counter makeover in Taipei this summer, and I was really impressed by the ritual. Layers and layers of fine-textured product resulted in such fantastic results!

This one looks a bit cool-toned to me, so I'm not too sure it'd look right. At the moment my go-to highlighter is the new Dior one (that I... haven't blogged about yet LOL)!

    1. Hi Sunny, the Cle de Peau makeover sounds wonderful! I'll look forward to your Dior highlighter review. This one is cool toned, but there was a 'gold' counterpart that is sold as well!

  3. Seriously beautiful! I have just two eyeshadow palettes from Cle de Peau and they are the treasures of my makeup collection. Right now I like Kevin Aucoin's Celestial Powder - it is not very shimmery, but gives a subtle glow :)

  5. I agree with Lena - pure luxury! So gorgeous. I do like that it seems cool-toned - so many highlighters are very warm!

    1. Hi Larie, I agree with you too! Warm is nice for the 'candlelit glow', but I do prefer cool tones!

  6. I am drawn to the packaging, it is just beautiful! I have only tried CDP skincare and their foundation. Unfortunately, I was not too crazy about the foundation.

  8. The geometric design is just breathtaking! So fancy for a makeup product. The powder itself is really glowy and pretty, especially that more gold-ish shade!

    1. Hi Maggie, I like the 'glowy' effect too. It's subtle, but sometimes I need just that!

  10. What a beauty! Cle de Peau 's products are always tempting but the hefty price tag always stops me from getting them. My favorite highlighter would be Chanel's Ombres Tissees in Beiges :)

  11. Oh wow wow wow--you got it!!! I was lusting after the gold one BAD when it first came out. But then you know how it goes...a few collections and big releases later and it's been put out of my head. Your post just reminded me of how much I want it though, so I think I will finally need to just do it! I'm surprised at how much I want Pastel now too, though. I usually just go automatically for the warmer, golder tones but this one is just so stunning!

    1. Hi Becca, Yes yes yes! I'm glad you love it just as much! Gold was really pretty too, but not what I typically gravitate towards, I guess we're opposites in that sense :)

  12. That looks absolutely amazing!I love the soft pastel colours there. I never would have expected it turns out so beautiful on the skin. What a great highlighter. I have some pink and white highlighters but am still looking for a nice beige/gold one / Claire

    1. Hi Claire, thanks! I like the mix too; I think it makes things balanced. It's definitely different from some frostier highlighters out there.

  13. Wowsers, that is gorgeous! I manage to 'glow' enough on my own - I don't venture into highlighter products very often. When I do it is mainly just around the eye area. This truly is a collector's item.

  15. So true about Instagram! lol

I've gone back to being scared of shimmer and highlighters - so in love with mattes right now for face products - but this is gorgeous and I love the comparison with the inverted triangle at the Louvre. I did try Cle de Peau once because a saleswoman dragged me over for a complete makeover at no charge and all their products were amazing. I love that they offer refillable pans!
