Kiehl's Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Eye Balm review

Haberlea rhodopensis, the 'Resurrection Flower', has the capacity to survive for over two years without water and will jolt back to live when properly hydrated. This rare member of the violet family is thought to be over ten thousand years old and have survived the Ice Age. To survive a drought, the plant assumes a state of anabiosis, or slowed metabolism. Normal metabolism is quickly reactivated after watering. Inspired by the reactivation principles of the 'Resurrection flower', Kiehl's created Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating cream in 2010. Buillding upon the success of the cream, Kiehl's has added the Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Eye Balm and Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream to this line, new for September 2012. Today I have a review of the new Rosa Arctica Eye Balm for you.

The Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Eye Balm is housed in a pale sea glass green container. The color gives the jar a beautiful chilled appearance. You can see the likeness of the 'Resurrection Flower' on the sticker. The eye balm contains mineral-derived brighteners Mica and Titanium to provide a brightened effect to the eye area. A blend of Shea, Carnauaba, and Cocoa butter hydrates the eye area.

The Kiehl's Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Eye Balm has a balm texture. Balms have a rich texture that lacks the oily feel of a heavy cream. The initial texture of the balm was firmer than I had expected. Briefly warming the semisolid product between two fingers was helpful for application. A little product goes a long way; in fact, it's easy to apply too much. The result is a comfortable and protective balm layer on your skin that lasts all night. The morning after application, I did notice a well moisturized and healthy appearance to my eye area, despite not having obvious fine lines or dark undereye circles to begin with.

Overall, the new Kiehl's Rosa Arctica Regenerating Eye Balm ($46 for 0.5oz.) is an effective eye cream with a balm texture. It would work well for those who like richer textures and are looking for moisturization and rejuvination of their eye area. The beautiful packaging and background story are also pluses. Thanks for reading! Are you familiar with the Kiehl's Rosa Arctica line? What are your favorite Kiehl's products? What are your favorite eye creams?

Love, Dovey.

    1. Hi Joyce, I've just barely started to notice a difference in my eyes; I think eye creams do help keep lines at bay!

  2. I've been wanting to try this one for forever! I think the main reason is the beautiful glass jar :P

  3. I was looking at this just the other day! It's nice to know it does work!

I really like the Midnight Recovery Concentrate from Kiehl's. My skin adores dry oil and that one's no exception!

    1. Hi Sunny, that sounds wonderful too, even though I'm not much of an oil person!

  4. I still have to try this, I have a sample of this eye cream and can'T wait to use it. The texture sounds perfect for me, I like richer/thicker textures all year round (even in summer), I think the best result I get when using a serum underneath. My favourite eye cream is Sisleya, however bit costly (still looking for a cheaper dupe) / Claire

    1. Hi Claire, how wonderful that you already have a sample! I don't wear rich eye creams everyday, but I do prefer the balm texture over a more slippery one.

  5. I actually really like Super by Dr. Perricone's melon eye cream - it's lightweight and hydrating, but also layers well under makeup. I use a different cream at night, but that one is my favorite for when I need to wear makeup!

    1. Hi Larie, I think I received a sample of that at some point (maybe melon something....). I'm kind of bummed that they're not sold online at Sephora anymore.

  6. This sounds like it would be great for night! I like a thicker eye cream at night, but as long as it doesn't give me milia tough as I am prone to them. I will get a sample and give it a try! Thanks Dovey!

  8. I love the seafoam green glass jar! I've used some things from Kiehl's in the past but don't have anything currently. After I work through all of the eye cream samples I have, I will have to look into this one.
