LUSH Jumping Juniper shampoo bar review

I just can't quit LUSH shampoo bars. How could I? They're so sudsy, fragrant, and cleansing. Perhaps you already know of my obsession. (I was tickled when Liz of Beauty Reductionista mentioned that she thinks of me when she sees them!) My long-time favorite is LUSH Seanik, the salty blue volumizing shampoo bar (reviewed here). After wearing my current bar down to a nubbin, I decided it was time to get a new one. This time, instead of buying Seanik for the fifth time in a row, I branched out and tried LUSH Jumping Juniper.
I bought my Jumping Juniper shampoo bar from LUSH on State Street; it was my first time purchasing there. The associates were really nice and even cleaned out the old shampoo tin I brought with me before packing Jumping Juniper in it. (Note: You can purchase the shampoo tins at LUSH; they're great for travel. I brought mine to the store so I wouldn't have to use any paper packaging.) I also got a sample of BIG Shampoo, which I'm happy about.

The LUSH Jumping Juniper bar has a really nice fruity lavender scent to compliment its lavender color. Every bar has a sprig embedded in it. Lavender is one of my favorite garden flowers; my apartment complex had some growing in the common area this year (see above). LUSH Jumping Juniper washes away oil and balances your scalp. Juniper berry helps cut out the oil, lemon and lime add shine, rosemary is antibacterial, and lavender balances and soothes the scalp.  When used in a hot shower, the beautiful fresh citrus scents in Jumping Juniper become evident. The shampoo suds up well and thoroughly cleans my hair. My hair felt a little less dry than with Seanik. I think this is because Jumping Juniper is more 'balancing' and lacks the salt found in Seanik. I think this will make sense for me in the winter months when I'm going for a less beach-y hair look.

It's love. I'm already worrying about which LUSH shampoo bar I'll repurchase the next time around: Jumping Jumpier or Seanik? Good thing it'll be a couple months before I have to decide again. Thanks for reading! Have you tried any LUSH shampoo bars? Have you tried any LUSH recently?

Love, Dovey.

    1. YAY on both counts! If I ever have a garden, I'd like to plant some.

  2. I LOVE mine too! I don't use it too often because it's a bit harsh and tends to strip my red hair color, but omygosh, it smells so delicious!

    1. Hi Annick, Awesome!! (not on the stripping though). It's just the kind of invigorating scent I need for my shower.

  3. I really want this to be my next shampoo bar! Right now I'm still using my godiva one - I like it, but I find it's almost TOO moisturizing for my hair. I feel like my hair is really weighed down when I use it too much.

    1. HI Kelly, the LUSH SA I spoke to liked Godiva too; it's good to know that it's moisturizing. It would probably be good for controlling all my frizzies, but like you said I don't know how much weighing down I could take!

  5. I'm really loving NEW! I went for it when I had my mind settled for Jumping Juniper because it was supposed to be great to help oily hair but the SA told me it didn't work for her and recommended me NEW! which works amazing!

    1. Hi GABY, I think NEW! is a great one too (although the name confused me when I first started). It's nice and stimulating, and not as drying :)

  6. Ahhh this sounds so promising! I've been a wimp and wanting to stick to regular shampoos, but this one seems SO cool! It looks great and I'm a big fan of lavender. Must check it out!

    1. Hi Sunny, it smells sooo good! Plus the lavender color is pretty too :) It took my a while to try the shampoo bars; I was expecting them to be like soap, but not so!

  7. I used to use lush shampoo bars way back when, but I found they shrank/disappeared rather quickly. How long do yours usually last? Thanks for the review!

    1. Hi Procrastinator, I always keep them in a well drained dish far away from the stream of water and apply the bar far from the stream as well. They do shrink quickly if they contact water. However, if I'm careful they can last a good couple months for me!

  8. That's it. You've inspired a true lemming! Love the idea of clean hair smelling like lavender. And I'm tickled that you're tickled. :D

    1. Hi Liz! Yes! Go smell! The shower scent is more citrusy, but there is a hint of lavender

  9. Hi Dovey! I am soo tempted to get this now! Anyway is it effective for oily scalp thou? I have this oily scalp problem but most shampoos I used made my hair ends so dry and brittle :/
And do I need to use other shampoos at the same time or this is adequate enough to clean my hair?

    1. Hi Yoshiko, my scalp is the same way; Jumping Juniper is wonderful for the oiliness. I think you'd need just one product. I'm not sure about the ends; since my hair is long I typically don't run shampoo all the way down the ends, and I make sure to condition, so they're in pretty good shape!

    2. I got one for myself!! Really effective and it surprised me when it starts to foam! Anyway my hair is short, so the ends are getting frizzy =/ will have to condition it often. The LUSH store smells so delicious and when I came out from the store I smelled delicious too =Q=

    3. Hi Yoshiko, Ah! I'm so happy you tried it. I love the foaming part too. The shampoo will cleanse off most oil, so the tips need a little extra added back in :)

  10. I like Lush shampoo bars as a clarifying shampoo because they have SLS...I know alot of eco-beauty folks out there that disapprove of SLS but the shizz works and gets rid of residue. I tried Dr Peppermint and it was very lovely and refreshing.

    1. Hi Beauty Box, I know what you mean, I'm an SLS user too. It works, and I think sulfates have a bad rep because of another sulfate compound (can't remember the details though!)
