Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Blending Brush review + photos

Meet the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Blending brush! As the name suggests, this brush was created to smudge out Urban Decay's 24/7 glide-on eyeshadow pencils; it also works well for softening the edges of any eye makeup. The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Blending brush is like a small precise finger for blurring the edges of long lasting eyeshadows. Creamy eyeshadow pencils and eyeliners impart quick and intense color. However, because they are pencils, an obvious line of demarcation between shadow and skin is often left. Most soft brushes do not have the power to smudge edges, and fingers tend to be too large and inaccurate. Hence, a good dome-shaped brush like the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Blending brush is handy. I've successfully used this brush to smudge my Urban Decay Smoked 24/7 eyeliners (reviewed here), as well as my MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Shadow pencils (reviewed here).

Size and shape comparisons
The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Blending brush has a small dome shaped head. The size is smaller than a typical eyeshadow brush, and comparable to other short dome-shaped brushes (see photograph above). The fibers are soft, but don't have a lot of bend, which is necessary for the kind of blending I've discussed. The synthetic fibers are cruelty-free and well suited to withstand the vigorous cleaning required to remove a cream product.

Overall, the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Blending Brush is a great brush to have if eyeshadow pencils or smoky eyes are on your agenda. Don't get boxed in by the name; this brush can be used with eye products from Urban Decay, as well as other brands. I enjoyed using this brush, and hope to explore more from Urban Decay's Good Karma brush line. Thanks for reading! Have you tried Urban Decay Good Karma brushes? What are your favorite Urban Decay 24/7 eyeshadow pencils and eyeliners? How do you use domed/smudge brushes?

Love, Dovey.

  2. I've always been curious about UD brushes--especially this one and the foundation one that came out with the Naked foundation. They both look so soft and wonderful! Must try them!

  5. I have the brush included in the Naked 2 palette, and to be honest I'm not a big fan. It's a little too scratchy for my liking! Maybe their individual brushes have better quality? This one looks great for smudging cream shadows/liners out!

    1. Hi Sunny, thanks for the comment! That is a shame--- I really liked the longer blending part of the Naked2 palette brush, but I guess it does depend on the person and purpose :)

  6. It's interesting that they call this a blending brush, but if it works it works! I have three brushes from UD and they are good but I find that they are better for cream and liquid products rather than powder products. So yeah they are nice if you find a good use for it but I find them a bit hard to wash.

    1. HI Teri, thanks for the comment! I think it's a blending brush for cream pencils; I think there's a different one for blending shadows. As for cleaning, it's interesting to hear your thoughts on that --- I don't have much a problem with my UD's --- maybe I'm using a strong soap? or maybe it depends on the brush?

  7. I almost bought this one during the VIB sale, but took it out of my cart at the last minute in an attempt to trim down the cart :P I've been looking for a nice brush for the pencils and cream shadows, and this sounds good.

    1. Hi Larie, thanks for the comment! I'd been eyeing this brush for quite some time too, as it's the only Urban Decay one that Sephora carries!

  8. I probably need a brush like this in my collection, given that I use the MUFE potted Aqua Creams daily! I usually use my fingers, but I am trying to build up my brush collection and get in the habit of using brushes to apply makeup... Besides being more sanitary, I want more control over placement! I have a small MAC pencil brush, but I think it is too small for all-over application or really thorough blending.

    1. Hi Sarah, wow, it sounds like you're a MUFE person! I haven't used my Aqua shadow pencils as much because I don't like blending with fingers, but this has given me more hope to soften the edges. I think this one would be better for blending edges (as opposed to straight up application where I'd probably use a paddle shaped brush)!

  9. I love smudge and pencil brushes! I usually use eyeshadow as a liner rather than on the whole lid, so they're perfect for me. I must admit that the brush that caught my eye in your photo was the Sephora pencil brush...I'm off to go check that one out :)

    1. Hi Caroline, Thanks for the comment! Eyeshadow as liner is really pretty! The pencil brush is one of my favorites--- the brushes have been updated since I bought mine, but I think there should be an equivalent.

  10. I have tried this before on UD counter but to be honest it's a little bit too short for my liking. The bristles are pretty good though.

  11. It looks like a really nice brush, soft and fluffy :) I don't wear cream shadow, but it looks like it would work well blending those L'Oréal Infallible shadows (of which I have four, lol).

  12. I got this and really like it. Tried to look for a similar brush but none had the same amount of firmness and softness as well as the length and density. Now I need some more jumbo shadow pencils to use with it... :)

  13. Is the UD one stiffer than the Sephora Pro Smudge Brush?
