NARS Deep Throat blush review + swatches

Spring... it's a thing! It's been a tough few months, however I'm feeling more optimistic than ever today! The combination of sunny weather, a much needed vacation, and a jar of live tulip bulbs from Mr. Lovey have done wonders for lifting my spirits.

In light of a season filled with natural beauty, one can't help but draw inspiration from delicate buds and shoots. I've found myself reaching for pretty peachy pinks more than ever. Recently I pulled out an old favorite of mine, NARS Deep throat blush. Like many well loved items in my collection, I had yet to review it! (And what better day could there be for that than today?)

NARS Deep Throat was among the first NARS blushes in my collection. (I'm a huge fan of NARS O, so naturally I had to have Deep Throat as well). The light peachy pink color has a brightening effect on my skin. It glows, but to an understated extent. Generally I find it easier to pair dramatic eyes or bright lips with Deep Throat (vs. NARS O) for this reason.

I'm getting sidetracked here, but I love how beautiful flowers are up close! What appears to be a plain pink tulip has such beautiful peach and mauve tones veined throughout. (That said, I do have a soft spot for pink tulips). Back to the blush...

NARS Deep Throat is a peachy pink with a light golden sheen. The golden glow is enough to be natural without adding too much warmth. You'll notice that it swatches slightly more peach on me, due to some pink tones in my skin. When comparing NARS Orgasm vs. NARS Deep Throat, their pinky-peach bases are somewhat similar when swatched heavily. However, O has a bit more sheerness on application and adds depth with its golden glow. NARS Deep Throat, on the other hand, is more pigmented, peachy, and less glowy. NARS Super Orgasm blush is more pink. It has a similar finish, however you'll notice a number of large gold glitter sparkles. Chantecaille Coral (click for review) has much more orange (after all, it's a coral!) Tarte Glisten blush (click for review) is more pink, pigmented, and has a golden glow.

Overall, NARS Deep Throat blush is a gorgeous peachy pink shade for spring! It's been a staple shade for me these days --- and keeps me looking as optimistic as I feel! It has lovely pigmentation and application; my only qualm, as with all NARS blushes, is that my skin does tend to be sensitive to the formulation, limiting my wear time.

Thanks for reading! Are you a fan of NARS Deep Throat as well? What are your favorite NARS blushes? What shades of blush have you been reaching for this spring?

Love, Dovey.

  1. Great swatches! They clearly show the differences in Orgasm, Super Orgasm and Deep Throat. I'm sure many often wonder about this.
I had refused to get Orgasm for many years but I finally bought one for me. ;)

    1. Hi Lena,

Thank you so much! I held out on O too for quite some time (but it was worth it!)

  2. I too find Deep Throat much easier to wear than O. I often wonder why it isn't more commonly talked about in the beauty world.

  4. That tulip looks so beautiful and shy. :D

I love NARS O and didn't quite understand DT's appeal until now. Will have to try it on the cheeks next time at the counter!

  5. Deep Throat was my first NARS blush purchase, I thought it looked better on my skintone than Orgasm. Thank goodness I choose Deep Throat instead of Orgasm because I now own three versions of it in various NARS palettes!

  8. Gorgeous tulips! Mr. Lovey should receive bonus points for such an endearing gesture :-) I've always said that when in doubt about what colors will work well together, just look to nature for an abundance of ideas. Whether the shades are delicate, bold, or neutral, the way in which nature composes her palettes is an inspiration to artists--and makeup artists! LOL

  9. Great swatches! I get to know which is prettier and I guess I prefer deep throat. I find it prettier and it really match my skin tone.

  10. I fell in LOVE with NARS when "O" was the big thing! After using O for a while I wanted to try a new one and ordered "Super O", and I love both. It seems I use O more than Super O, just by looking at my pallet. I figured out that I was using Super O on those going out nights when I wanted a little more shimmer, as it definitely gives much more shimmer on my face. My skin is fair to the more medium side with pink undertones and both colors go very well on my skin. I recently ordered another color, just for another change (LoL) called "New Order". It says it is soft pink with a gold AND silver shimmer. It looks very close to Super O, but am hoping the silver shimmer stands out a bit more than the gold. It should arrive in a few days, will have to let y'all know! Love the swatches too, thanks!

    1. Thanks Pamela, I'm always on the fence with New Order --- I love a cool pink but am not sure how the sparkles would look on me. Would love to hear your thoughts!

    2. Dovey, I am so disappointed :(
I order online from Sephora, because I have to, and it is so hard for me to know how any of the colosr will look, exactly. That is why I searched you out! I needed a very good, an excellent beauty consultant, such as you, to help me. I'm so happy to have found you!
Now, about New Order, oh it looks gorgeous in the pan, but I am sending it back. It is already packed up and ready to ship out! I did like you and took my blush brush and swatched it on my inner arm and all I could see was sparkle. No color showed on my skin color what so ever. I have medium skin with pink undertones. It is a completely different shade of pink from Super O, as you said a "cool pink". I think I would love it, if it had less sparkle and more color. Very sad. I guess I will stay with what I know for now. I already have sparkle, if I want to Glam it up, so that is my main reason for sending it back. Plus, I just wanted a new shade for this Summer.
      Hope this helps!
      ♥Much Love♥
