Illamasqua Naked Rose powder blusher review + swatches

Despite the futuristic promotional photos for Illamasqua's Naked Strangers Summer 2012 collection, the colors are quite tame. I picked up two items from the Naked Strangers collection: Illamasqua Zygomatic cream blusher (reviewed here) and Illamasqua Naked Rose powder blusher. Illamasqua Naked Rose in particular has me thinking more English country garden than gladiator chic. The name is spot on. It's like a rose, exposed.

The packaging is a warped square, which coincides with their out-of-the-box take on makeup. In the sunlight, you can see a cool prism effect from the lid. The blush texture is smooth, very pigmented, and easy to pick up.

Illamasqua Naked Rose is a light-medium matte neutral rose color. The pigmented color definitely shows up on my medium skin. Naked Rose is more in the clean flowery family of colors, as opposed to Illamasqua Zygomatic (reviewed here), which had beige tones. You can see it has very little peach, when  compared to NARS Deep Throat. You can see how light and summery it is when compared to NARS Oasis (reviewed here), a dusky pink champagne. I wish I still had Bobbi Brown Desert Rose (see swatch here); I think it might have been quite similar!

The Illamasqua Naked Strangers collection might have been theatrical, however Illamasqua Naked Rose is quite tame. It's wearable, versatile, and would work with so many looks, including futuristic power femme. After all, a rose by any other name would look just as sweet.

Thanks for reading! Have you tried Illamasqua Naked Rose or any other Illamasqua blushes? (I've wanted Katie for a while now). What is your favorite rose toned blush?

Love, Dovey.

  2. I like this colour, thought it will look less pinkish/rose but that's actually good! it doesn't seem muddy. Ah, Katie is pretty, one of my fav light cool pink blushers :)

    1. Hi Claire, I really want to try Katie now! I was surprised at how 'rose' this actually looked too, especially when worn.

  3. I'm happy to see Illa coming out with more wearable facial MU...although they do a great job with brights, I can't justify spending the money on something I won't use that often!

    1. Hi Caroline, I totally get what you're saying. I've always admired from afar since I don't jump often for too crazy or seasonal colors!

  4. Very nice! :) Naked Rose is very pretty and reminds me so much of their other blush, Katie, which I own. I love that it's wearable and tame :D

  5. Oh my gosh, Dovey. This post is too cute! I'm still waiting patiently (okay, fairly impatiently, but shhh) for Illamasqua to finally hit Canada -- their matte blushes all look so gorgeously wearable.

  7. I own their blush in Ambition. It is a shimmery pink, probably darker than Naked Rose. I love Ambition and now you got me wanting Naked Rose.

    1. Hi Tiffany, it is! I do like cream too, and I think Zygomatic is a tad more original of a color!

  12. I just realised I need to just finally man up and buy Deep Throat. I've wanted it for ages and your swatch of it is just too darn beautiful! Naked Rose seems amazing too though! :) thanks for the review and swatches!! x

    1. Hi Ellie, Haha! Deep Throat is really one of my favorite all time blushes. I can't wear it often due to sensitivity, but I'd wear it every day if I could!

  13. This is really pretty! The only thing I own that might be along the same line is Tarte Exposed. I love it for when I can't think of what blush I'd use! Illamasqua is sadly out of reach for me (both in Belgium and in Taiwan where I'm from). I might do enough research at some point and order something online though!

    1. Hi Sunny, I think Getting Cheeky had a good comparison. I've wanted Tarte Exposed for a long time now too. It's such a classic blush color :)

  14. I love your pic of the blush with roses! This looks to be a perfect rose blush. Similar but different to Tarte Exposed which is my current favorite "not-sure-what-blush-to-wear-today" blush! I have added it to my wishlist. I just need to pull the trigger on an Illamasqua blush & be done with it! I've got several wishlisted! : D
