Laura Mercier Sephora 500 point perk (November 2012) review + swatches

During the Sephora VIB sale this month, I cashed in my points for the Laura Mercier Sephora 500 point perk. If this post seems like déjà vu, you'd be right; this is my second Laura Mercier perk (read about the first one here). The funny thing is, I don't find myself using the brand very often. So, just like last time, I've collected this small bounty to give to my mom who does use it!

The Laura Mercier Sephora 500 point perk contains a Shimmer Bloc in Golden Mosaic, Eye Basic in Wheat, Tinted Moisturizer in Nude, and Foundation Primer. I've swatched all the colors below. The Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Golden Mosaic is the star of the collection. I believe that this sample contains about half the amount of product in a full sized shimmer bloc. The sample packaged in a size similar to a Laura Mercier eyeshadow. (This is much better than the teeny Laura Mercier eyeshadow sample I received last time). When blended equally, the final effect is a shimmery peachy bronze. One could tailor the blend, depending on which colors you touch your brush on. The Laura Mercier Eye Basic in Wheat is a peachy nude. The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Nude is swatched below. It seems to have an orange-y tint on my skin. Nude is the color that is typically included in Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer samples.

This Laura Mercier Sephora 500 point perk has only four items, as opposed to the usual five deluxe samples one would expect. However, I thought this gift was quite nice because the Shimmer Bloc, Eye Basic, and Tinted Moisturizer are very useable. The foundation primer is a 'filler' item that I could live without. Overall, this 500 point perk was on the nicer end of Sephora's recent perks, so I'm happy. Thanks for reading! What Sephora perks or gift-with-purchases have you liked recently? What was the last 500 point perk that appealed to you? Have you tried any of the Laura Mercier products in this set?

Love, Dovey.

  1. Man, this looks like a great set! I was given some Laura Mercier oil-free primer and oil-free tinted moisturizer to try out, and I like both enough to put them on my wish list! Here in Belgium brands occasionally offer sample sets with a certain amount of purchase, but nothing as major as this one!

    1. Hi Sunny, It's nice to hear that both products get a thumbs up from you! The 500 point perks are a nice bonus (though theoretically the purchase level is high!)

  2. I got a different Laura Mercier set a while back that came with a mini baked shadow, an eye kohl, mascara and lip gloss. I haven't seen this one at my local Sephora, but it looks like a great little set, especially for someone who might be new to Laura Mercier. Love the color you get when all the colors of Golden Mosaic are blended together. :)

    1. Hi Makeup Magpie, I think it's the same as I got last time too! I think I liked the last set better for me, as it was mostly eye products. I love the color of golden mosaic too :-)

  3. This does look like a great set - Nude is my shade when I'm tan and I quite like the foundation primer, so it would come in handy!

  4. This looks like a very nice set! The last 500 point perk I sprang for was the NARS set. I like NARS as a brand, and I (amazingly...) didn't have the blush version of Orgasm, so I figured if nothing else it would be nice to have the mini for comparison swatches. That being said, I did feel like the set felt small for a 500 point gift! I wonder if Sephora is trying to move towards smaller 500 point sets?

    1. Hi Sarah, I thought the NARS Set looked nice too! I like when Sephora (or NARS) has mini blush samples; they're definitely good samples. I also feel like the gifts are getting smaller and smaller; I believe Sephora used to promise a full-sized product in each set back in the day...

  5. Ooh I'm a bit jealous of the awesome Sephora point perks I hear about! I have really had my heart set on trying out some Laura Mercier products lately - the shimmer blocs included :)
I am a new follower by the way!

  6. I agree, this is one of the nicest perks. It really allows a person new to the brand to explore it fully. I used to lust after the shimmer blocs for a long time but finally decided they weren't for me. It's so nice of you to share this with your mom. :D

  8. HMMM! I might want this right now, even though I have eye basics and the primer from the 500 pt perk last year... the Nude TM seems like a shade that might work for me this time of year - I'll have to investigate! :) anyway I'm debating between this and the benefit perk that just came out recently!
