Friday Five : a Mint condition edition

Happy Friday! In March, one looks forward to the emergence of the verdant green shoots of Spring! As for me, I look forward to mint, an herb with which I have quite a longstanding relationship. In grade school, I was never without a tin of Altoids; nowadays, I get my minty fix homegrown from a planter on our apartment's perch. (Fresh mint leaves are great with desserts, in tea, and in mojitos!) In addition to enjoying mint as a food and flavor,  I've embraced mint in fragrance form. I've been wearing Balenciaga Florabotanica, a mint and rose fragrance, almost daily as of late. Mr. Lovey's been wearing Armani Code Sport, which has a nice mint note as well. Fragrance mint is quite different from a fresh mint essence; it's a bit more mellow and sweet. It was an acquired taste for me, however now it seems I can't get enough! I'll have to check out Prada Luna Rossa for the Mr. Lovey. Mint seems to be less common in women's fragrances, so I'll have to do more research (if only Prada Infusion de Rose were still around....). All in all, mint's a refreshing scent, perfect for March and the months ahead! On that note, here are five fresh reads that I enjoyed this week:

1.  Makeup Magpie shares beautifully packaged pieces from Aerin Spring 2013.
2. British Beauty Blogger has photos of a Chanel flower stall.
3. Bois de Jasmin shares her French Pharmacie recommendations.
4. Alexander Wang's first collection for Balenciaga exceeds expectations on NYTimes.
5. NARS tests the power of Pinterest with their latest lip pencil release, on Mashable.

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend! Do you have any mint fragrance recommendations? How do you feel about mint? What fragrance notes are you enjoying now?

Love, Dovey.

  1. I haven't tried any mint scented perfume, but I do love herbal perfumes. Guerlain's Herba Fresca is my all time favourite. It really smells like fresh grass!

  3. I haven't experienced mint in fragrance, but I've been on a bit of a fragrance binge lately so now is probably the time to look into it. I love mint in lip products and in tea. Fun fact: Peppermint tea can relieve headaches and migraines. I always have a box in the tea cabinet!

  4. I love the smell of mint but not sure about it in a fragrance for some reason. Will definitely have to try it out!

  5. I usually like mint in fragrance, and I agree that it is different than a minty flavor. Refreshing!

  6. I am a big fan of the Luna Rossa, Prada sent me a travel size sort of tube and I spritzed it on before I went to hand it to the boy, and ended up keeping it for myself ;P I'm not 'into' mint but I think it is a scent I don't really think about, except in the shower I guess. My Queen Helene Mint Julip mask and the Lush lip scrub are probably the most minty things I posess :)

  7. I don't think I would like mint as a fragrence. I have a bottle of Amazing Grace a friend gave me, but it only had about 5 tablespoons left in it, and it was syrupy from being old.. I put a few drops of 90percent Isopropyl alcohol in it and it thnned it out.. I hate when fragrence gets that syrupy over sweet smell.
