TATCHA Jet Set Travel Kit review + photos

If all goes well, I'm hoping to do a bit of traveling in the upcoming months. I guess TATCHA must have read my mind, because they sent me a cute kit that should come in handy for a girl on the move! Today I have a look at the new TATCHA Jet Set Travel Kit to share with you today!

TATCHA is a lovely niche Asian-inspired skincare brand that's always welcome in my skincare routine. I love the carefully crafted aesthetic of their packaging, and of course the product within. It can be tricky to know what to invest in first, so I've noticed that the brand has conveniently created a number of skits, including the TATCHA Jet Set Travel Kit, as a great starting point. (This one happens to include favorites that work well for the busy traveler).

The entire TATCHA Jet Set Travel Kit is housed in a pretty lavender PVC zip pouch with gold logo detailing. The front is clear, while the back is an opaque lavender. It's cute, practical, and TSA-friendly!

Inside the TATCHA Jet Set Kit you'll find the following:

  • TATCHA Travel Size Indigo Soothing Silk Hand Cream (click for my review) - It's worth noting that the Indigo collection is one of my favorite TATCHA collections! The full size Indigo hand cream has been a long-time resident in my work purse; it sinks in quickly with just the right amount of hydration.
  • TATCHA Aburatorigami Blotting Papers (click for my review) - These gold-flecked sheets are such an indulgent set of mini blotting papers. I have a close-up of the textures in my linked review!
  • TATCHA Luminous Dewy Skin Mist (click for my review) - This is a really handy hands-free skin moisturizer. As I wrote in my review, my favorite use for the skin mist is as a hydrating / smoothing base before foundation. (I'm thinking it'll come in handy for keeping skin hydrated on flights as well...)
  • TATCHA Gold Camellia Nourishing lip balm - I've been testing the Camellia for some time now, but have yet to write a full review! Overall, it's got a nice texture that's smooth without being overly emollient.

  • TATCHA Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask
  • TATCHA Luminous Deep Hydration Revitalizing Eye Mask
The Jet Set Kit comes with the above facial and eye masks as well. I'm debating whether I want to use these now, or save them for a later travel date! They'd be perfect for a mini spa treatment for someone with a busy itinerary (as is often the case during my travels...)

Overall, the TATCHA Jet Set Travel Kit ($125) is a delightful little set of TATCHA favorites that I'm planning on enjoying both now and on my travels-to-come. It has a nice mix of full size items (like the mist and balm), as well as miniature ones. Should the Jet Set Kit tickle your fancy, it (and other TATCHA treasures) can be found at Tatcha.com!

Thanks for reading! What TATCHA treasures have you been enjoying lately? What kind of skincare kits do you construct for traveling?

Love, Dovey.

P.S. I'm planning on mixing and matching from different Tatcha sets during my travels. Be sure to check out my review of the TATCHA Ritual Discovery Kit for more travel friendly skincare!

TATCHA 'Ritual Discovery Kit' review + photos

I have a soft spot for pretty packaging. Thanks to TATCHA, I've been enjoying the wonderfully wrapped TATCHA Ritual Discovery Kit! The set has sample sizes of four skincare favorites for those looking to experiment in TATCHA's geisha-inspired skincare ritual (or convenient travel sizes for the jet-set types).

When it comes to minis, aesthetic quality can be variable (after all, the point is usually the product inside). That said, I love the attention to detail crafted into this set. The set has beautiful white and gold pieces, with the weight of glass. The molded paper presentation has an equally beautiful and clean feel.

The four parts of TATCHA Ritual Discovery Kit has four pieces, for an ordered ritual.

  • Step 1: PURE is the TATCHA One Step Cleansing Oil. The full size version is a staple in my everyday routine as of late, so I'm happy to have a smaller version to take with me on my travels.
  • Step 2: POLISHED is the TATCHA Gentle Enzyme Rice Powder. It comes in fourteen single use packets --- the powder transforms into a wonderful texture upon mixing with water; rice bran and papaya enzyme exfoliate.
  • Step 3: RADIANT is the TATCHA Deep Brightening Serum, which is a fan favorite.
  • Step 4: SUPPLE is the TATCHA Moisture Rich Silk Cream. This little white jar is too cute! It locks in moisture with TATCHA's usual finish.

I hope you've enjoyed this tour of the TATCHA Ritual Discovery Kit ($59). It's a lovely little set, and I'm looking forward to experiencing the TATCHA ritual during my everyday routine and travels!

Thanks for reading! Have you experienced TATCHA? What are your favorites from the line? Do you take skincare miniatures with you on your travels?

Love, Dovey.

P.S. For more TATCHA, be sure to check out my review of the TATCHA Indigo collection. The TATCHA Ritual Discovery Kit, as well as other staples can be found at Tatcha.com.

Skincare Sunday : A few of my favorites from Avène, Kiehl's, and Tatcha

If there's one thing I've learned this quarter, it's that six hours of sleep and chronic coffee consumption does not healthy skin make! Thanks to a busy-bee schedule (and allergy season on its way), my skin's been through some ups and downs. Due to the aforementioned circumstances and the ingredient-sensitive nature of my skin, optimizing my skincare routine can be a challenge! Thankfully, I've managed to accumulate a handful of skincare products that seem to work well for me --- and thought it would be fun to share them with you today!

1. Avène Crème peaux intolerantes
What would I do without Avene? This cream has been my go-to for when I want to put only the gentlest, simplest ingredients on. Additionally, it has special packaging that allows it to be preservative free. (I like to think of this cream as very hypoallergenic, even among hypoallergenic creams!)

2. Avene Cleanance cleanser
This has been my holy grail cleanser for a few years now. The gel formula gives a deep clean without drying (or using salicylic acids which I can be sensitive to). Plus, I love the gentle thermal water scent!

3. Kiehl's Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating cream and eye balm (click for review)
I'll admit it: I'm fond of the sea-glass green jars. Aside from the aesthetics, I've been having good luck with the Rosa Arctica formula on my skin thus far. The ingredient list is a bit more extensive than with Avène products, but it works well for me when my skin is relatively calm and on the dry side. I like the thicker, somewhat balmy feel, and how well it locks in moisture.

4. Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate (click for review)
Like a number of people with 'ethnic' skin, I tend to scar and develop hyperpigmentation quite easily. Vitamin C products tend to work really well for me when it comes to evening out my skintone over time. I acquired a brand new bottle of Kiehl's Vitamin C concentrate and have been loving it thus far!

5. Tatcha Indigo Soothing Renewal Treatment (click for review)
This is a new discovery of mine, thanks to Tatcha. I like to use this as a calming night-time treatment for when my skin is under some duress. I'm still tickled by the indigo-tinted formula and the gorgeous packaging!

Thanks for reading! What skincare products have you been loving lately? Have you tried anything from Avène, Kiehl's, or Tatcha?

Love, Dovey.

TATCHA Indigo collection skincare review + photos

Color me excited about the TATCHA Indigo collection! This collision between color and complexion is all about indigo, a plant prized in Eastern Medicine for its anti-inflammatory benefits. It's a welcome concept for those with atopic skin, like myself. I've been luxuriating with my own set of the Tatcha Indigo collection courtesy of Tatcha, and have my review to share with you today!

I've featured Tatcha here previously, however to recap, the luxury line combines traditional Asian beauty with modern technology to create an inspired skincare routine. The three pieces I have to share with you today are the TATCHA Indigo Soothing Silk Hand Cream, TATCHA Indigo Soothing Silk Body Butter, and TATCHA Indigo Soothing Renewal Treatment.

Aesthetics are an important part of the TATCHA Indigo experience, as you can see from the pieces here! The lightly iridescent indigo and gold containers are housed within dark wood print boxes, inside which you'll find decorative paper drawers. All of the products have a lovely spa-like scent reminiscent of sweet rice and camellia. It's the same scent found in the rest of Tatcha's line, though I noticed the lightest touch of an extra plant-like scent as well (which I assume is from the indigo extract).

TATCHA Indigo Soothing Silk Hand Cream ($38 for 2 fl. oz.) is housed in a convenient squeeze tube. The design makes it easy to expel just the right amount (and you don't need much). The formula sinks in quickly and leaves just a light residue, which I find to be common to Tatcha product formulations in general. It strikes a really nice balance as hand creams go; it's moderately hydrating without being too evanescent. As someone who constantly washes her hands on the job, it's so nice to have on hand!

TATCHA Indigo Soothing Renewal Treatment ($98 for 0.5 fl. oz.) is the most luxurious of the TATCHA Indigo collection, and my favorite piece as well. It's housed in a weighty glass jar with a lovely gold-rimmed lid. The indigo extract and liquid silk provide a calming treatment for skin, sporting a texture that's somewhere between a balm and lotion. I like to use the Soothing Renewal Treatment as a part of my nighttime skincare routine. I'm careful about what I put on my face, as I have very sensitive skin; I'm happy to report that this treatment has meshed nicely with my skin thus far! In fact, I've been reaching for this quite often in the past several weeks...

TATCHA Indigo Soothing Silk Body Butter ($48 for 6.7 fl. oz.) is a moisturizing treatment for the body. (It's a wonderful idea, after all why should our complexions get all the pampering?) The one thing I do have to say however, is that the name is mildly misleading. The texture is quite light and almost whipped, not oily or buttery. That said, like a butter, a little does go a long way. Like the hand cream, it sinks in quickly and leaves a light protective residue, as is typical of Tatcha products.

Before I conclude, I should answer the question you may be most curious about!  Does the Tatcha Indigo collection turn your skin blue? Yes, and no. Initially, you notice the slightest indigo tint as you smooth it on. However, it blends in and dissipates over time.... I have yet to turn into Smurfette despite covering myself in Tatcha Indigo from head to toe!

Overall, I'm delighted to have the TATCHA Indigo collection as a part of my skincare routine! As someone with sensitive skin, this is my favorite set of theirs to date. I adore the spa-like scent and am kind of tickled by the smurf-blue pigmentation as well. I'm hard pressed to recommend just one item; I'd say it depends on what you're looking for! I find the face serum to be most indulgent, the hand cream to be most practical, and the body cream to provide a wonderful whole-body experience.

Thanks for reading! Have you tried Tatcha? What products would you recommend? And of course, what do you think of Tatcha Indigo's blue hue?

TATCHA Ageless Collection skincare review + photos

Happy Friday! Today, I have an exciting post celebrating the new TATCHA Ageless Collection! TATCHA is a luxury skincare brand with a beautiful story. Founder Vicky Tsai found inspiration in a two-hundred year old book detailing the beauty rituals of geisha; she married these East Asian rituals with modern skincare science to formulate an East-meets-West beauty routine. The ritual is centered around TATCHA's trademark Hadesai complex, which consists of red algae extract, rice bran, and green tea extract. I've had the opportunity to experience a number of wonderful products from TATCHA; be sure to read my reviews of TATCHA's Normal Skincare Ritual (here), as well as the Water Collection (seen here). You can imagine my delight at receiving TATCHA's latest collection for review! (Oh, and I also have another set that will go to one lucky Cute and Mundane reader; details to follow!)
TATCHA's Ageless Collection is the newest addition to the brand's skincare lineup. The Ageless skincare collection builds upon Tatcha's Hadesai complex, using Peony, Yokuinin, and Nindou extracts to increase microcirculation at the skin's surface. The increased circulation is thought to promote the revitalization of skin, and decrease premature aging.

The Ageless collection consists of TATCHA Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream, TATCHA Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream, and Akari Crystal Massager (not shown). The packaging is, of course, stunning! Tatcha's line is encased in dark wood printed boxes with handmade paper scrolls within (see here). The original skincare line is a ceramic white, however you can see that the Ageless collection is colored a serene sea blue with dark blue and gold detailing.

The TATCHA Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream is a pale pink cream housed in a weighty plastic jar. The cream has a rich texture with some gel-like slip. Typically, I pick up a small amount with one finger and strategically dot it over my face before massaging it in. Almost immediately I can feel the slightest warmth in my face, a possible manifestation of the increased micro-circulation. The cream comforts and hydrates skin; it sinks in, but also leaves a protective layer that lasts overnight, much like TATCHA's original cream. (I can feel it when I wash my face the next day). This facial has TATCHA's gorgeous signature scent, which smells to me like sweet rice water and flowers.

The TATCHA Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream is also colored a whisper pink; the eye cream is packaged in a broad based glass jar. The texture is quite thick, but retains enough slip to work easily over the skin surrounding eyes. The eye cream leaves an even more protective layer than the facial cream. There is a scent, but it's appropriately fainter than TATCHA's other facial products.

Overall I really enjoyed my TATCHA Ageless Collection experience. It's nice to see an eye cream added to TATCHA's lineup, and the added benefits of their newest facial cream sound promising. Both products convey luxury with impeccable feminine detailing and a delightful fragrance. The texture is wonderful and my skin seems to be content with the added protection. You could say I'm one happy beauty blogger! TATCHA Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream ($185 for 1.7fl.oz.) and TATCHA Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream ($135 for 0.5 fl.oz.) are available at Tatcha.com, as well as select Barney's New York locations.

Thanks for reading! Have you experienced TATCHA? What are your favorite products? Do you prefer the new sea-blue or original ceramic white packaging?

Love, Dovey.

P.S. Check back soon, because I have an amazing TATCHA Ageless Giveaway planned for this weekend!

TATCHA Skincare Water Collection review

East Asian inspired luxury skincare brand Tatcha has a new collection to help you 'sea' your way to luminous skin. The Tatcha Water Collection consists of a hydrating facial treatments in a mist and mask form. These are meant to act as supplements to their basic skincare routine (see my review and photos here). I have samples of the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist and Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask to share with you today.

The Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is a hydrating facial spray that is meant to be used in the morning, night, and any time in between. It's packaged in gorgeous blue to white gradient packaging. Squalene and Glycerin provide hydration, while extracts from algae, licorice, camellia flower, and ginseng treat your skin. It's quite different from water sprays. This spray comes out as a fine mist that has a serum like consistency on the face. That said, I would not call this serum as it does not sink in quickly and disappear. You are left with a moisturizing residue protecting your face. This worked very well to give my face a lasting refreshed look and feel. However, I noticed a velvety feel to my skin that is characteristic of silicone containing products. Because of this, I consider Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin mist to be a skincare/cosmetic hybrid. I prefer to confine use to daytime when I'm wearing foundation already. I can spray before or after foundation to help with hydration. This will probably come in handy during the dryer winter months.

The Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask is meant to provide intense hydration and cooling to the face. Extracts from algae, Camellia flower, ginseng, and royal jelly treat your skin. The mask is a coconut-derived gel structure that provides direct contact to the skin. This is thought to provide better delivery of the serum's ingredients into the skin. After fifteen minutes, the mask can be peeled off and the remaining serum should be massaged into the skin and followed by Tatcha Moisture Rich Silk Cream (review and photos here) to retain the moisture. Those who enjoy sheet masks might be interested in this gel alternative.

The Tatcha Water collection is a nice supplemental selection of hydrating treatments to the Tatcha skincare routine. The Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($48 for 1.35fl.oz.) and Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask ($95 for 4 masks) can be found at Tatcha online or Barney's. Thanks for reading! Have you tried any Tatcha skincare? What are your favorite hydrating sprays and face masks? What products do you use when your skin needs hydration fast?

Love, Dovey.

TATCHA Normal Skincare Routine review

TATCHA is a luxury skincare line that has drawn inspiration from old East Asian beauty rituals. Founder Victoria Tsai brought together a two hundred year old book detailing the beauty rituals of geisha and modern skincare scientist to formulate an East-meets-West skincare routine. The ritual is based on a trifecta of antioxidant rich red algae extract, rice bran, and green tea extracts that form TATCHA's trademark HADASEI complex. TATCHA has recently featured in Vogue magazine, as well as other printed and online press.

TATCHA products show an attention to detail that should be expected of a luxury skincare line. The skincare products are housed in off-white thick plastic containers that are reminiscent of porcelain. The Tatcha logo is embedded with a blue and gold enamel-like finish. The new containers are taped closed with a strip of blue and white geometrically patterned tape. Upon opening the bottles, I peeled the stickers off. Even the product boxes (seen above) have a beautiful wooden print. All the products I received were made in Japan. TATCHA also sent a beautiful pamphlet detailing the history and inspirations behind the brand (seen below).

There are four steps to the TATCHA skincare routine: PURE, POLISHED, RADIANT, and SUPPLE. The first step,'Pure,' refers to the One-Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. It is followed by 'Polished', an exfoliant Rice Enzyme powder. 'Radiant' is the Tatcha Deep Brightening Serum. Finally, skin is moisturized with 'Supple', the Moisture Rich Silk Cream

The TATCHA One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil contains a blend of camellia oil, rice bran oil, red algae, and green tea. It's a gentle cleanser that is meant to wash away makeup and other impurities. The scent is beautiful; it smells like sweet rice water with some floral hints. The Camellia cleansing oil is meant to be applied directly to a dry face for best effect, which is typical of cleansing oils. I found that it also works well when applied to a slightly damp face. One to two pumps is enough per use. The Cleansing oil has a watery non-oily texture that is easy to work over the face. It dissolves away makeup (except for stubborn waterproof mascara) and washes off easily with warm water. Only a slight oil residue is left on the face. Those with dry skin could stop here, however I like to use a cleanser afterwards since I have combination/clog prone skin.

The TATCHA Rice Enzyme Powder  is the second step in the routine. This polishing step exfoliates and smooths the skin using a blend of rice and papaya enzymes, plus Tatcha's HADASEI-3 complex. Rice enzyme has long been used in East Asian cultures for beautifying skin. The TATCHA Rice Enzyme powder comes in three different blends (Gentle, Classic, and Deep) to account for different types of skin. I have the Classic version, which contains added pearl for skin conditioning. The TATCHA Rice Enzyme Polishing Powder was unique from other skin treatments I've tried. Half a teaspoon of powder is poured into wet hands. By mixing the powder with water, the treatment is activated and becomes a luxuriously creamy paste that can be massage onto the face. The texture is mostly milky, however I could feel a few larger particles and some micro-particles working on my skin. Again, there was a sweet rice scent. After washing the TATCHA Rice Enzyme Powder off, I did notice my skin was smoother and brighter.

The TATCHA Deep Brightening Serum contains licorice, scutellaria, jujube, and TATCHA's HADASEI-3  Complex to add luminosity to the skin. Silk and Squalene aid in moisturization. Recently, brightening and lightening serums that have been used by Asian consumers for some time have become more popular in the U.S . The TATCHA Brightening serum has the same beautiful scent as the other TATCHA products. It goes on smoothly and sinks in quickly. A smooth residue is left at the surface. This product has received a lot of love from other beauty bloggers for its ability to even skin tone, however it wasn't a good fit for my sensitive skin. There was no obvious bad reaction. I noticed mild signs that my skin wasn't happy and stopped using this part of the routine. I have plans to test this on Mr. Lovey though; he has a lot of freckles and sun damage that could use erasing. I will update if I see results.

Finally, the TATCHA Moisture Rich Silk Cream is a cream made with silk protein designed to form a barrier that protects the skin. Rice bran oil, red algae, and green tea works to prevent aging. Wild thyme, ginseng root, and royal jelly promote moisturization and balance. The cream certainly had a luxurious feel. It was silky to the touch and had a plush feeling when worn. It was moisturizing, without feeling oily. While the moisturizer does sink in, you will notice a moisturizing film if you touch your face, even hours later. I does a good job of protecting your face and locking in moisture. The cute fabric knot and golden spoon were delightful details on the packaging too.

Overall, I enjoyed my Tatcha experience. The packaging was beautiful and the products were of appropriate quality. The light floral and sweet rice fragrance was a plus as well. My favorites were the TATCHA One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil for its light feel and the TATCHA Rice Enzyme Powder which was a unique and effective experience. TATCHA One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil ($48 for 5.1oz.), Classic Rice Enzyme Powder ($65 for 2.1oz.), Deep Brightening Serum ($150 for 1.0 oz.) and Moisture Rich Silk Cream ($150 for 1.7oz.) are available through Barney's or TATCHA's online shop. Thanks for reading! Have you tried the TATCHA products or passed by a counter? What do you think of the packaging? Do you use any Asian inspired skincare routines or product lines?

Love, Dovey.

Tatcha Aburatorigami and Tatcha Evening Aburatorigami review

The luxury skincare brand Tatcha is known for creating a product line based off of a textbook of geisha beauty secrets dating back to Imperial Japan. The distinctly Asian influence permeates to every aspect of their collection, including facial blotting papers: Tatcha Aburatorigami and Tatcha Evening Aburatorigami. For centuries, Japanese gold craftsmen used special handmade paper called Aburatorigami to protect whisper-thin gold leaf sheets. Geisha discovered the Aburatorigami sheets to be soft, strong, and absorbent, perfect for removing excess facial oils from skin. Tatcha has recreated this centuries old technique with handcrafted natural blotting paper leaflets that are powder free and fragrance free.

The blotting leafs are available in two varieties: Tatcha Aburatorigami and Tatcha Evening Aburatorigami. The former is the original version, with thirty leafs per package. The latter is a newer product with a smaller size sheet that can easily fit in an evening clutch. It has forty sheets per package.

The Tatcha blotting sheets are housed inside decorative thick paper pouches.

As you can see Tatch Aburatorigami is the color of natural handmade paper; it is made of 100% Abaca leaf and gold flakes. The Tatcha Evening Aburatorigami is black as night; it is made from 100% Abaca leaf, charcoal, and gold leaf. If you look below, you can see the sporadic gold flakes shining in the paper.

When you pull the paper out, it feels delicate, but strong. It soaks up facial oil effectively for a petal fresh look every time.

Overall, the Tatcha blotting papers have a beautiful background story and are pure luxury in presentation and construction. Tatcha Aburatorigami ($12 for 30 sheets) and Tatcha Evening Aburatorigami ($15 for 40 sheets) are available at Tatcha online as well as Barney's New York. Thanks for reading! Have you experienced or passed by Tatcha counters? What do you think of Asian inspired skincare? What are your favorite blotting papers?

Love, Dovey.
