Five for Friday

Happy Friday! I've been getting back into basics and brights, which MAC, Illamasqua, and MAKE UP FOR EVER seem to be so good at. Here are this week's five discoveries and/or rediscoveries from my collection. Illamasqua Sex Eyeshadow (from spring 2012) might be my amongst my favorite discoveries. Having a paper-white eyeshadow base is great for working with brights. Illamasqua CanCan (also spring 2012) is a pink-leaning lavender that's a sheer and subtle statement color. It seems more wearable to me than either a pink or lavender alone. MAC Jaunty eyeshadow from the MAC Hey Sailor collection (reviewed here) is a pretty pale beige when I'm in the mood for a basic no-makeup summer look. I've been giving my Urban Decay 24/7 liquid eyeliner a break in favor of MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Liner in Black. Both are great liners, but the difference is in the tips. Urban Decay has a flexible small brush, while MUFE is more of a stiff pointed wand.

Thanks for reading! What were your discoveries or rediscoveries this week? Are you doing brights or nudes?

Love, Dovey.

P.S. Here are five blog reads that I earmarked this week:
Beauty Reductionista settles the score with her robin's egg blue polish collection.
Mostly Sunny gives us the deets on MAC Cremesheen + Pearl.
Eye Heart found the perfect 'angelic' nude lippie.
Secret Girly Side has beautiful photos of Deborah Lippmann's Wicked Game
Cami loves Kiwi has photos of Illamasqua's 'Generation Q' for Fall 2012. The blush, the blush!

  4. Oooh, loving what you picked! I so wish I had access to Illamasqua!

I've definitely going for long-wearing nudes this week since the weather is so humid! :)

And thanks for the new reads - I'll go take a look! :)

  5. I love the color combination! I wish I could pull off shades like CanCan a bit better: despite having green eyes (apparently this is supposed to pair well with purple) it's just never worked for me with the exception of liner.

    1. Hi Jessica, you're right, purple is supposed to pair with green! Although also with brown? Perhaps the contrast is too stark? I like how Can Can has more pink than a regular purple :)

  6. I love the lavender and white colour combination, I am really curious how you would place those colours on your eyes :)I yet have to try some MUFE aqua liners. I discovered, that I am doing fall looks lately, that's weird because I was so happy we finally have good weather, lol. I really enjoy a darker lip or at least the most summery colour was Guerlain Champs Elysees (my favourite Rouge Allure of all times).

    1. Hi Claire, you always have the best dark lip colors! I'm really loving waterpoof liners lately since they flake rather than smudge. The white eyeshadow is simply a base--- kind of like you would use an off-white for when evening the whole eye area. The purple is just a lid color :)

    2. Thank you Dovey :) I enjoy a dark lip even in summer (and I meant Rouge Automatique not Allure :P). White and purple is a summery combo for sure, could be a cupcake topping as well :)

  7. Loving the color selection here. Super bright and summery. :D

It's been bare-faced for me lately. I got so tan from Puerto Rico that anything I put on my face looks really funny LOL!

  8. Thanks for the link love. :)

Isn't it funny how the one called Sex is pure white? Illamasqua likes to turn things around now and then, I guess! Love the sweet pink blush!

  10. I've been very low-makeup this week since the humidity would make everything melt off anyways! But I'm picking and choosing my best stuff to take to Italy next week, and it's been fun rediscovering my stash while doing that.
Thank you so much for the link, by the way - I did a double take as I scrolled down. It's an honor :)
