NARS Undress Me Multiple review + swatches

A Sugar Plum fairy dances across the crystalline stage of my imagination as I contemplate the NARS Undress Me Multiple, a whimsical offering from the NARS Fall 2012 collection. What can I say? It's easy to get whisked away to the Land of the Sweets when one is presented with a ballet slipper pink sprinkled with silver dust.

I haven't made a secret of my love for NARS Multiples (see here). NARS Multiples have a beautifully smooth texture that glides on. It's one of the best cream textures out there. The color lasts for a few hours and will needs to be reapplied. The packaging, however is well suited for reapplication, as it is a stick form that can easily be thrown in a bag for touch ups. The more I use them, the more I ascribe to the idea that multiples can be use all over the face. After applying to cheeks or as a highlight, I'll swipe a bit on my nose and other areas of my face to subtly unify the look. This  goes for almost all the colors, as they can be applied in an imperceptibly sheer fashion. Multiples are also a nice alternative to those like me who tend to break out when using NARS powder blushes.

NARS Undress Me Ingredients: Polymethyl Methacrylate, Triethylhexanoin, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline wax), Alcium Sodium Borosilicate, Sorbitan Sesquiisostearate, Polyethylene, Candelilla Cera (Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, C10-30 Cholesterol/Lanosterol Esters, Sodium Magnesium Silicate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Tin Oxide, Euterpe Oleracea (Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Oil), Simethicone, Linseed Oil / Palm Oil Aminopropnaedio Esters, Aqua (Water), Silica, Glycerin, [(+/-) May contain Mica, Cl77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Cl77491 (Iron Oxides), Cl77492 (Iron Oxides), Cl77499 (Iron Oxides), Cl75470 (Carmine), Cl77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), Cl77742 (Manganese Violet).]

NARS Undress Me Multiple is a demure ballerina pink (or perhaps negligee pink as the name might suggest) with silver glitter. It belongs to the family of multiples without sheen. Any shine can be attributed to the visible silver glitter. NARS Orgasm Multiple is a peachy pink with golden sheen. You can see how Undress Me lacks that same sheen, and instead has larger pieces of glitter mixed in. NARS Luxor Multiple (reviewed here) is a pale highlighter with a pale pink iridescence. You can see how much darker and blush-like NARS Undress Me Multiple is.

When worn the color of NARS Undress me multiple is very subtle, especially on my currently tan skin. I bet it will only look better as my color fades into fall. I love understated colors like this. The glitter is noticeable, and fades more slowly than the color. I'm hesitant about wearing glitter, however I think this can work because the base color is subtle and doesn't compete for attention. (That said, an interview and professional work environment might not be the best places to whip this one out). Worn well with subtle or smoky mattes, NARS Undress Me multiple could provide just the right hint of intrigue. While NARS Undress Me Multiple might not be a collection builder, it is a sweet and whimsical piece that lifts my imagination à la grand jeté!

Thanks for reading! What are your favorite items or lemmings from NARS Fall? What are your must-have multiples? Is glitter a do or don't in high end cosmetics?

Love, Dovey

  2. I'm in the same boat as Martha... I don't have any multiples, but this one looks gorgeous, and it seems like something that would fit into my collection perfectly! Along with many of the other NARS Fall 2012 products... :)

  5. Ok, I'm NOT the only person who doesn't have any Multiples. I don't feel so alone anymore! But then I remember that I don't own ANYTHING by NARS and the loneliness seeps in again...

I'm hesitant to wear glitter on my skin as well (especially since I do get oily), so I think I would probably lean more towards other Multiples. That said, this is such a pretty, pretty colour! Like you said, very understated, but still so beautiful -- and classy, too! <3

    1. Hi Dani, I didn't own one for the longest time, and wasn't brave enough to purchase one alone. My first one was from a set! I know what you mean about seeing a brand from the outside and looking in. There's so many great makeup brands out there that I just don't have the time or funds to dabble in yet!

  7. I've been waiting for a nude/muted multiple! I find the rest to be a little too bright/shimmery, especially for the day time. Can't wait to try this out, thanks for the review :)

  10. That's a beautiful shot! I love laces a lot :) When I see this post contains some laces, I like it a lot :) Unfortunately NARS will only be available in SIngapore (when I base) soon, NARS fall is too pretty to be missed. I think Amsterdam is a pretty shade and Undress Me is one of the winner too! :)

  11. I think either one love or hate multiples, I do find some colours very pretty and I don't mind visible shimmer as long as it stais where I applied it, lol. The colour is beautiful, it doesn't look as shimmery as I thought it would be actually. You enable my love for multiples everytime I read a review <3

    1. Hi Claire, Thank you so much for your comment! I was surprised at how not shimmery this color was too. In fact it's really not shimmery, save the glitter. People definitely do love/hate the multiple, for understandable reason. It seems to work for me (except the mid day disappearing act) :)

  12. "It's easy to get whisked away to the Land of the Sweets when one is presented with a ballet slipper pink sprinkled with silver dust." -- you just sold me on this with that sentence! Beautiful shots and the swatch looks stunning! The name "Undress Me" itself made me think of bare skin, but the swatch does too. Good job, whoever names NARS shades!

    1. Hi Maggie, YAY! Thank you (and I'm glad we're on the same imaginary wavelength). Interesting point about 'Undress me' alluding to bare skin. For some reason (perhaps because I'd seen the color) a chemise came to mind for me!

  14. I like it but I don't think I'd use it enough. Based on your swatches I prefer the multiple in Orgasm. That I could actually use as a blush, lip color, etc. I like that I could throw it my purse for quick touch ups. I could even use my fingers.

    1. Hi RileyMariesMom! I hear you---- Undress Me is not a 'must have' multiple. NARS O, on the other hand is really wonderful. I'd definitely recommend that!

I may be the only one that feels this way, but I don't really like the Multiples all that much. I have Orgasm but I feel like whenever I apply it over my makeup, it doesn't blend well and gets patchy and uneven, making my foundation patchy and uneven with it! On bare skin, it doesn't last for more than an hour or so on my oily skin. It also bugs me that it doesn't have enough pigment to show up on my cheeks as a blush, but it has too much pigment to use as a highlighter. :P Maybe I'm just picky though...

    1. Hi Becca, I think there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way! It definitely is known for lasting :) I tend to prefer sheer colors and tones, so this is great for me. However, as you mentioned, for more color impact a powder blush would be necessary.

  17. Great photos! Undress Me is an interesting shade -- I love it in theory, but am not sure the color will show up on my skin tone. I think it might make a nice eyeshadow base, with its silvery glitter :) The only item I've picked up so far from the Fall collection is the eyeshadow duo. :)

    1. Hi Makeup Magpie, I think you're right, it's not really a shower, which is what I tend to go for. I like your eyeshadow idea, I'll have to try that!

  18. Such a sweet and pretty colour. =)

I love the Multiples too but it takes forever to finish one. I wouldn't mind collecting them if they were mini-sized!

    1. Hi Liz, I agree, minis would be great. Some of the colors I can't fathom using up!
